I’ve just made the decision to go on a diet, just to to get me to shed a few pounds and improve my basic fitness. Because I work from home I usually end up grazing throughout the day. It is often muchconsiderably easier to raid the fridge or the biscuit barrel on much too regular a basis. Additionally engaged in sit down duties, like online jobs where I sit at my computer for long periods of time, it’s all too easy to accompany that activity with junk food. And once a packet of cakes is open it’s difficult to stop.

It is in this regard that the work from home routine can conspire against you to a large extent. However it all depends on what is stored in your fridge. I have decided to turn the fact that I work from home to my benefit. I plan to cut out all junk food and de stock the fridge. There’s in fact an advantage here because if I did not work from home then it’s more likely that I would find junk food. Most offices and factories have eating facilities or at least vending machines. These are stocked to dispense junk food to some extent and it’s not easy to resist. In addition of course we have virtually say in what is dispensed by these devices. Bars of chocolate and crisp like items are a particular temptation and in reality contain negligible nutritional benefit.

At least if you work from home you are remote from such temptations provided you fill your fridge accordingly. From tomorrow there will be no biscuits or other junk items in the house. I will replace sweet items with fruit. I will in addition cut out sugar, which I often take with my tea. A final measure, I will make sure that whenever I nip out to run errands, post office, bank etc, I will leave my wallet at home. That way I will not be tempted into any spur of the moment junk food consumption.
