A Work from home career brings loads of benefits, not least of which is a reduced, or even eliminated, requirement to drive a car. However, even when you work from home the best part of the day, for example engaged in Online jobs, you could at some time or other discover the requirement to leave the office to carry out some errand or other. Visits to the high street, delivery of parcels or mail at the post office or visits to your local stationery supplier for emergency stationery items may all be needed at some time or other irrespective of what your work from home activities entail. And the bad news is that taking your car for these such short journeys has an adverse effect on your fuel consumption because the engine doesn’t warm up properly. What’s more, emissions from your enginecar are at a peak during the initial few miles so your green credentials are somewhat spoilt by these very short journeys.

I’ve worked from home for six years now. I pop out most days for some reason or another but in the past six months have started taking my push bike rather than my car. It actually works, my journeys are not more than 4 miles and done in no more than twenty five minutes. It is unusual that the weather is too bad, sometimes I capitulate and take my car but that is very unusual. I make use of a saddle bag for carrying things in, I can fit in all my inbound or outbound post and a useful amount of shopping should I run out of anything.

Obviously safety is a concern therefore I always wear a helmet and I select the routes carefully to avoid the bulk of the traffic. Actually I can get to my bank branch in five minutes using exclusively cycle lanes.

I find this enriches my work from home career by providing true green transport and it gives me useful exercise as well.
